Greetings, wellness pioneers! The realm of health can often appear like a labyrinth of complex diets, workout regimens, and conflicting advice. But what if the key to better health isn't complex at all? What if it's simple, but not necessarily easy?
The Myth of Complexity in Health
We often equate complexity with effectiveness, especially when it comes to our health. You might think you need to meticulously weigh your food, count macros, or adopt an overly restrictive diet to see results. Let’s debunk this myth: Achieving better health doesn't have to be a torturous endeavor.
Simplicity Doesn’t Mean Easy
Yes, making lifestyle changes will require effort and confrontations with your own habits and beliefs. However, the answers to life's most challenging questions are often the simplest. We may reject simple solutions because they seem too "easy," but don't let this mindset hold you back.
The 5 Pillars of Foundational Health
1. Prioritize Animal Protein and Fats
Starting your day with a protein and fat-rich breakfast stabilizes energy, improves mood, and reduces food cravings.
Practical Steps:
Inventory: Check your fridge for protein sources. If it’s lacking, consider sourcing from a local rancher.
Meal Planning: Do you have recipes focused on protein? Plan your meals in advance to make your mornings smoother.
2. Sun Exposure
Get outside and soak up the sun. It's essential for Vitamin D synthesis, mood regulation, and overall well-being.
3. Physical Movement
Whether it's walking, lifting weights, or sprinting, regular movement is non-negotiable for a healthy lifestyle.
4. Quality Sleep
Prioritize sleep as much as you prioritize your diet and exercise. It's crucial for recovery, cognitive function, and emotional well-being.
5. Digital Detox
Unplug from technology to reconnect with the people who inspire and support you. Authentic human interaction is irreplaceable for emotional and psychological well-being.
Setting Yourself Up for Success
Be Intentional
Pick one pillar to focus on initially. Plan it out, create a roadmap, and expect to confront barriers.
Find Accountability
Loop in a friend, coach, or an accountability partner to help you through the initial hurdles.
Celebrate Progress
Don't overlook the small victories. Each one is a step towards a healthier, happier you.

Thanks, Slim. With everything that’s going on right now, you’re focusing on solutions and positivity. These are the basic needs and food is always first on the list. I agree with you that quality of food, foresight and the intention of preparation is key here. Again, discipline is key and we just gotta do the best we can. Thank goodness for the 80/20 rule though. Now that fall is around the bend, what helps me to stay on the straight and narrow is making up 2 batches of soup or stew each week loaded with vegetables from my local CSA and protein of course.
This is moving month for me, leaving beautiful Hudson Valley behind in exchange for the beautiful people of Tennessee where angus abound. Hats off to ya Slim!
